Don’t give up
you just have to try,
chemistry is not that hard
let me tell you why
There are two types of bonding that you should know,
there is ionic and covalent yo, yo, yo
In ionic you have electrons moved
from one atom to another,
they give positive or negative ions which attract to each other
Now covalent is not hard to forget,
two or more pairs of electrons are are shared by two atoms,
do you get it yet?
The electrons in the outermost shell,
do you know their names,
They’re called valence electrons, does this ring a bell?
When it comes to a covalent bond,
The valence electrons are shared between atoms,
In an ionic bond, the more electronegative atom
gets the valence electrons
See this isn’t that hard,
you just have to try,
just study your hardest,
no need to cry
The periodic trends are not that much harder,
you just have to learn them,
it will make you smarter
Electronegativity measures attraction, did you know,
of an atom for the electron in a chemical bond, yo
It increases from left to right, across the group,
and increases from the bottom up, woop woop
Ionization increases the same way,
but it’s a different thing, isn’t that cray
It’s the energy needed to remove an electron,
from a gaseous ion
Hey, we’re not done,
we’re almost there,
isn’t this fun,
no need to pull your hair
Hey, wouldn’t you know,
electron affinity increase like the other two woah,
and guess what happens here,
it shows the atom’s electron accepting ability, not another tear
Last but not least,
is the atomic radius,
it increases right from left,
decreases from top to bottom
What is it you ask?
It’s the size of the atom,
isn’t this an easy task!
You got it now,
wasn’t that just wow,
you now know all about bonding you see,
and all you have to do is not give up,
it’s that easy!
